I am writing to formally address a troubling incident of alleged discrimination that occurred during my lease application process. I believe that I was unfairly treated and discriminated against based on my Hispanic/Latino background. Karen Fish, who oversaw the leasing process, demonstrated a clear bias by favoring a White American applicant, Patrick Blake, while ignoring other qualified Hispanic and Black applicants, including myself, despite my adherence to all leasing requirements.

Moreover, it has come to my attention that this same property has leased units to individuals involved in illegal activities, including drug dealers and pimps. This has had a direct impact on the safety and reputation of the area, resulting in law enforcement actions, including a SWAT team intervention in San Bernardino. This raises serious questions about the integrity of the leasing criteria being applied, as well as the apparent discriminatory practices in selecting tenants.

Such actions could potentially violate federal and state fair housing laws, which are designed to prohibit discrimination based on race, color, or national origin. Furthermore, the apparent willingness to lease to individuals engaged in illicit activities while discriminating against qualified applicants on the basis of their background signals a concerning disregard for both ethical leasing standards and community welfare.

I respectfully request an immediate and thorough investigation into these practices and a review of the company’s leasing policies to ensure compliance with fair housing laws. Should these discriminatory actions and concerning leasing practices persist, I will have no choice but to seek legal counsel and involve relevant fair housing enforcement agencies.

Such actions potentially violate fair housing laws, which prohibit discrimination on the basis of race, color, or national origin. This conduct not only undermines equal housing opportunities but also raises significant legal and ethical concerns regarding the company’s leasing practices. I request an immediate investigation into this matter and a thorough review of policies to ensure compliance with anti-discrimination laws. I am prepared to escalate this issue to the relevant legal authorities and fair housing enforcement agencies if necessary

Not a great experience with this company (their Phoenix office) from a renters standpoint. They seem to care more about money than listening to their tenants concerns. When I moved in, our floors were very outdated and it had mold in some of the cracks in the floor. Since then, it’s gotten worse and no response from management. It’s like the floor is sinking in in some areas. Still haven’t addressed my front door needing work done to close and lock properly. Our apartment is the least updated in the complex but still being charged the same as other tenants who have since had their whole unit remolded. Other tenants are up all night listening to music, fighting, yelling, etc. but the company overlooks certain tenants and blames others. Not sure if it’s due to race or what but kind of weird to me. Unfortunately they don’t have an option to end the lease early AT ALL

Rich Enderlin and James Huang of Sperry Commercial Global Affiliates are excellent real estate advisors – especially in Multi-family and Office Sales & Leasing. They’ve advised us on some great investments for our commercial real estate portfolio, and protected us from a few bad ones. No matter whether we’re buying in California, Florida, or Canada, they’ve been there every step of the way. Love that I don’t have to interview a new broker every time we go into a new market. You won’t find a better Commercial Real Estate brokerage than Sperry Commercial Global Affiliates!

Be careful if doing any business with Sperry! Be even more careful if you have to deal with Doreen G. I would heavily do your research before dealing with Sperry! If you are going to move into an office space managed by this group I suggest you run for the hills. Doreen is the most dishonest property manager I have ever had to deal with. She manages the property at 1600 N Broadway, Santa Ana CA 92706 and will flat out lie to your face, ignore your calls and requests even if it's an emergency. We have been verbally threatened by NAI Capital's leasing agent Steve and let Doreen know that we don't feel safe here anymore and she assured us that she would take care of the issue and talk to owner of the building and it was not acceptable. Then the same Agents from NAI capital have been showing the building and send random strangers into our unit during business hours unannounced. We brought this to Doreen and the property owner Jack's attention and they agreed this is in breach of our lease agreement and that something would be done to assure our safety at 1600 N Broadway Santa Ana. CA 92706 however Doreen manipulated in a very deceptive fashion and came back weeks later with a generic email apologizing for all of the times that the ball was dropped. We are disgusted by the level of professionalism of Sperry Commercial and Doreen. Be extremely cautious if doing any business with this group of people, they will promise you the world to get you locked in a lease and will not deliver on any of the promises. They don't care for your safety or employees safety. We already feel unsafe with all the drug addicts and homeless people who live in the garage but now we fear the people that Sperry works with because of the verbal threats made.

One of the things I was impressed with the most about Sperry Commercial Global Affiliates is how they marketed our shopping center. They didn’t just put it online and wait for it to sell. They sent info on my property with the President of the company to market at an expo in China. Another broker took it to the ICSC Conference. They sent it to brokerages in Dubai, Canada, Mexico and a few other countries. They presented it on a sales call to their entire network, e-mailed it thousands of Commercial brokers throughout the U.S. and presented it to their database of and high net worth companies and trusts. They gave it their all, and it was as if there was an entire team of brokers throughout the country working for us to sell this property – not just the broker we listed with. I cannot say enough good things about this company.

STAY AWAY RENTING ANY SPACE FROM THIS COMPANY!
I'm a new resident at 1600 north Broadway be very careful!
Don't come here, as a resident of the building I can confidently tell you and warn you of all the mishaps that occur here. Late at night you should be worried of all the crack heads and meth heads walking around. Security is on and off with monitoring the property.

This whole building is falling a part and the company isn't doing anything to fix all the issues at all.

Extremely dissatisfied with your property management skills Sperry Commercial. You guys have left us hanging for months now, ever since you forced us into signing your contract and moving into this building.

Doreen G. the appointed property manager is horrible at communicating with new companies moving in, and over all communication.

She hasn't been able to provide us with an address, because the one on the lease is already someone else's address in the building. As a property manager, how could you even make a mistake like that and not lose your job.

You guys put way too much trust and faith into Doreen. She represents your company horribly. Because she can't even represent herself. Her secretary didn't pick up the phone once on us neither has she. She doesn't get back to anyone in a timely fashion. Not myself or the owner of our company.

On top of all this we weren't provided keys for the mezzanine floor bathroom. And the first floor restrooms are out of order due to your lack of management. You guys haven't fixed a thing about this building and it's disgusting.

We are extremely concerned about the next four years a head of us with your management company and we really hope everything works out because as of right now, it looks like Doreen needs to lose her job. Or learn how to communicate better.

Avi Narang, Senior Vice President, has left my family and I without hot water for 12 days. He sent a plumber out to our home after being contacted by Fair Housing on Tuesday. The plumber arrived around 4 pm. After inspecting the water heater, he called Avi and told him that the water heater needs to be replaced. Avi told him that he was in a meeting and would call him back in an hour. The plumber has not heard from Avi. The plumber told us yesterday that he called Avi multiple times yesterday to replace the water heater.

Code enforcement asked for the owner’s number yesterday. Code enforcement is giving the owner 24 hours to replace the water heater or the inspector said that he is going to post an order to vacate on the property.

We have contacted multiple governments agencies for assistance.

The owner’s name is Saleem Gagai. I contacted the owner on January 9, 2020 letting him know of our situation.

Do not do business with these two slum lords. This is in humane treatment. I have a minor child in the home and a disabled veteran. We are having to carry boiling hot water upstairs daily to bath. I slipped and fell three times transporting pots of hot water.

I have been in the Real Estate Industry for more than 30 years now and in commercial real estate for 12 of those years I’ve seen multiple franchises and commercial firms and I’ve never seen one with the culture and camaraderie as well as depth and experience as Sperry!

Rand, James, Rich and their team are truly first class integrity-based brokers Brokers can’t recommend them enough
